Stay Healthy In The Home Office

4 Tips To Stay Healthy, Happy and Productive Whilst Working From Home

Tips to staying healthy at the home office

When most people think about staying fit and health, they tend to focus on meals they are eating and modification of their exercise programs. Very rarely do people consider how their time in a workplace or office effects their health. Today, we have 4 tips/habits for maintaining your health at the office.

1. Keep Moving

It has been shown that spending large amounts of time in front of a computer leads to decreased concentration levels and fatigue. Taking 2 minutes to have a stretch, walk outside or stand up will leave you feeling more refreshed. This will also allow you to refresh you posture and move from your sedentary position – breaking up any soreness or stiffness in your body.

2. Hydration

Dehydration can result in a number of unhealthy symptoms including headaches, dizziness, confusion and fatigue. Your body loses water naturally through breathing, sweating and physical activity. Even though it may seem like you are not losing much, you need to replace what is being lost!

3. Optimise your Workspace

Most people spend eight hours a day at work, with the majority of this being at your desk. Poor ergonomic setup can have a long-term impact on your health. This is even more important at the moment with a large portion of the work force working from home due to Covid-19 restrictions. Simple things to consider ae ensuring you have a height adjustable chair, your feet ae flat on the floor and the top of the computer monito is in line with your eyes. One of our Therapists can assist you in ensuring that your work space is set-up appropriately.

4. Exercise

Structured exercise programs have long been used as a strategy to prevent chronic conditions that are heightened by working in an office. There is good evidence that exercise is beneficial for chronic conditions such as low back pain and neck pain. Speak to one of our therapists if you need help developing an individualised exercise program.
